Last night’s Long Term Pose at The Rivoli was quite a blast. Our model Jack turned up with her studio mates who had never modeled before and asked if Stan, Bradley and I would mind if they gave it a shot. We were thrilled with their work and under Jack’s coaching, they did a marvelous job. Thanks to Jack, Rachel and Kate for the inspiration. Here are two pastels from the session, Nupastel on Stonehenge papers.

Speakeasy is an open mic improv hosted by Christian Collier at the Mudpie in Chattanooga. Christian asked me to be the artist guest last evening so I took my Nupastels and tore up some Stonehenge paper and sketched four of the performers. I sold two and have these left of Brandi and Jodi. Charles Niznik Clendenin supplied me with coffee and company and Thompson Galetovic made us some fantastic Nutella Crepes. Yum!

Avril se trouvant sur une table de carte, Pastel on Paper, 15" x 22"

We had our first long yerm pose at the Rivoli last evening, Stan the Man, the model and I did a 30 min and settled into this pose for the remainder of the three hours.
We started with a sitting pose, then Stan suggested that we put the model on a folding card table. I had my doubts that the thing would hold but she made it though with no problem at all. I’ve never been a fan of reclining poses and this one was no exception. I drew it twice, wiped it out, drew it again and finally got it on the third round. I had little time left to work on the modeling so I concentrated on the background and the props instead. It has a nice French poster kind of feel and I’m happy with the results. Not bad for the first long pose.

Heather answered my post on CL for a model. It was snowing that day, odd for Chattanooga this time of year. Flakes as big as frogs were falling but not sticking to the roads. I had two heaters on Heather in her leather chair but the still weren’t enough. Working with someone who’s getting goose flesh makes me rush the drawing so I shot a reference for her face and will post the finished pastel when I’m done. Heather was a good sport and a real trooper dealing with the chill.

I’m working with a model here in Chattanooga. This pastel is from our first session. She has a natural grace and knows how to pose. I used a limited palette for this peice, roughly six colors.

Nupastel on Stonehenge paper.
