Hello, I’m Daniel Gill and this is a collection of my life drawings in pastel, ink and oil. Here you’ll find my musings on drawing, painting and working with figure models as well as my notes and thoughts on art, sketches from my books and a history of my work in figures since about 2003.

This is my first pastel portrait of Samantha and her first long term pose at Hipbone Studio in Portland, Oregon. I finished this drawing in two sessions, it’s done in Nupastels on unfamiliar paper that a student traded me for my traditional Stonehenge.

Scot Smith asked me to show at his place, O’Malley’s in SE Portland. I have a selection of limited edition prints on masonite as well as original oils on view throughout the month of May. Thanks Scot! O’Malley’s Saloon & Grill 6535 SE Foster Road Portland, OR 97206 – 4661 (503) 777‑0495

I’m starting a couple of books with Ariel and Sister Thyme and I’ve switched back to ink to make them. These are drawings made at Hipbone over the last several weeks featuring Zach, Casey, Johnny and leah. Ink on paper from my sketchbooks.

I’ve had too much coffee today and I’ve been thinking about figure drawing, finding my voice as a painter and what’s lead me to the series I’m doing now. I started working with the figure seriously about a year after I’d moved to Portland, back in 2002. I was teaching Illustration at PNCA and I’d gone out for a walk…
